Envision Blockchain is excited to introduce Managed Guardian Service (MGS) beta v10, a major milestone in delivering the power of the Guardian to organizations in a fully managed, scalable environment. Designed with insights from our years as the builders and maintainers of the open-source Hedera Guardian, MGS was created to make it easier for enterprises to harness the Guardian’s capabilities without managing the underlying infrastructure. This beta v10 release represents the final phase before we bring MGS to full commercial availability in 2025.

What MGS Beta v10 Brings to the Table

Integrating Guardian 3.0 within MGS, beta v10 introduces an array of features and refinements tailored for enterprise users, making it simple to implement, scale, and manage climate data operations on a global level. Here are the highlights:

Advanced Roles and Permissions Management

MGS beta v10 introduces a powerful, refined roles and permissions model that gives organizations unprecedented control over user access and task distribution. This enhanced system allows businesses to distribute responsibilities accurately and scale their operations with a high degree of confidence that each user is assigned the appropriate level of access. By delineating roles such as policy authors, reviewers, and token issuers, MGS ensures that users have access only to the features and data they need—nothing more, nothing less.

Key Features and Capabilities

Granular Role Definition and Management MGS’s role-based access model allows administrators to define and manage roles in a highly structured way. Roles such as policy authors, who create and configure policies; reviewers, who verify configurations and ensure compliance; and token issuers, who control the lifecycle of digital assets, are just a few examples of predefined roles that can be customized. This separation of duties is essential for organizations looking to maintain security and operational efficiency in complex environments.

Flexible Grouping and Delegation MGS’s grouping feature allows roles to be aggregated, creating efficient management structures for assigning permissions across departments or teams. Additionally, the delegation feature enables users to transfer their roles temporarily, without losing their own permissions, fostering a collaborative environment where responsibilities can shift smoothly during absences or project transitions.

Policy-Based Permissions for Precise Access Permissions in MGS are intricately tied to specific policies, which allows for detailed control over actions within the Guardian ecosystem. This includes the ability to:

  • Manage Policies: Users with specific roles can import/export policy configurations, execute dry runs to test policies, and oversee policy-related documents, streamlining policy management and minimizing operational risks.
  • Handle Advanced Operations: High-level permissions give select users the ability to manage tokens, perform automation testing, and use record/replay functionalities for auditing policy executions. These advanced capabilities are critical for users responsible for compliance and operational oversight.

Streamlined User Role Management for Enhanced Security The system provides administrators with a list of users whose roles they can modify, enabling targeted role management and ensuring that role changes remain under control. Additionally, separate APIs for managing roles and policies for senior versus ordinary users offer an added layer of security, making sure that only authorized personnel can make significant changes.

Enhanced API-Driven Access Control With the comprehensive Roles & Permissions API suite, MGS beta v10 enables organizations to automate and streamline role management. Through these APIs, administrators can:

    • List, Create, Update, and Delete Roles: This suite of API endpoints allows for full lifecycle management of roles, ensuring that access controls can evolve with organizational needs.
    • Assign and Update Policies: Administrators can assign specific policies to users, ensuring they only have permissions relevant to their roles. This policy-driven approach also supports temporary changes and access delegation, ideal for dynamic project environments.
    • Retrieve Detailed User Information: By retrieving detailed user role and permission data, administrators can audit and adjust access configurations as needed, ensuring compliance and security.
  • And More..

Why This Matters for Businesses

The advanced roles and permissions management system in MGS beta v10 is designed to support businesses that need scalability, security, and agility. By implementing such a precise, API-driven roles structure, organizations can confidently delegate tasks, promote accountability, and enforce security without compromising on operational speed or flexibility. As businesses grow, this system ensures that access control remains manageable, scalable, and adaptable, making MGS an ideal solution for enterprises handling complex governance and compliance requirements.

The flexibility and granularity provided by MGS beta v10’s roles and permissions model empower organizations to achieve their operational goals efficiently. With role separation, API-based automation, and secure delegation features, MGS equips businesses with the confidence to scale up their operations securely, knowing that user access aligns with their evolving needs and compliance standards.

Tailored Indexer for MGS

A major addition to MGS is the customized Global Indexer, built specifically for MGS users. This single sign on (SSO) Indexer provides tenants with a powerful, searchable connection to environmental data across Hedera’s testnet and mainnet. The Indexer hosted by MGS is compatible with every IPFS storage provider including local nodes.

Global Search Integration for Ecosystem-Wide Policy Discovery

MGS beta v10 introduces a Global Search Integration feature designed specifically for the discovery of published policies across Hedera’s ecosystem. Leveraging the power of the Indexer, this feature allows users to perform comprehensive searches across both Hedera’s testnet and mainnet, providing quick access to relevant policies that have been officially published. Once a policy is located, standard registry users can easily download it for further review and analysis, streamlining access to valuable information on climate and sustainability initiatives.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Targeted Search for Published Policies MGS beta v10 enables users to search exclusively for published policies within the ecosystem, making it easy to locate verified and finalized policies. This focused approach ensures that users access only complete and actionable information, removing the clutter of draft or unpublished data.
  • Cross-Network Visibility for Comprehensive Access By supporting searches across both testnet and mainnet, MGS allows users to view a wide range of policies regardless of their deployment status. This cross-network functionality provides insight into both experimental and live policies, giving users a broad perspective on what is being implemented in real-world scenarios versus what is still in development.
  • Downloadable Policies for Easy Access and Analysis Once a published policy is identified, standard registry users can directly download it. This convenient feature supports deeper analysis, allowing organizations to review policy details offline, integrate insights into their own strategies, or use these policies as benchmarks for their projects. This capability is particularly valuable for organizations looking to understand industry standards or adopt best practices.
  • Enhanced Discoverability of Climate Initiatives The global search tool enables users to quickly find climate-related policies that align with their interests, facilitating benchmarking and knowledge-sharing across the ecosystem. Organizations can use this tool to locate policies that mirror their own sustainability goals, fostering alignment with broader climate initiatives and encouraging collaboration within the Hedera network.
  • Operational Efficiency and Streamlined Data Access With a centralized search and download capability, MGS beta v10 eliminates the need to navigate multiple sources to locate specific policies. This streamlined access improves operational efficiency for organizations, allowing them to focus on strategic planning and implementation rather than spending time searching for relevant data.

Practical Applications

The Global Search Integration feature has practical applications across various organizational roles:

  • Compliance Teams: Quickly access published policies that support compliance efforts, enabling easy download for record-keeping and regulatory reporting.
  • Policy Analysts: Discover and download policies for comparative analysis, gaining insights into effective climate strategies and contributing to more informed policy development.
  • Climate-Focused Organizations: Locate and benchmark policies aligned with specific sustainability goals, supporting initiatives that contribute to broader environmental impact.
  • Collaborative Projects: Identify similar policies and potential partners within the ecosystem to foster collaboration on shared climate goals.

MGS beta v10’s Global Search Integration for Ecosystem-Wide Policy Discovery provides a streamlined and efficient way for users to access, download, and analyze published policies across the Hedera network. This feature aligns with MGS’s commitment to supporting transparency, knowledge-sharing, and global collaboration in the climate space. By offering a centralized tool for policy discovery and access, MGS empowers organizations to engage with a network of climate initiatives, adopt best practices, and drive meaningful contributions to a sustainable future.

With this feature, MGS beta v10 enhances the accessibility and usability of climate policy data, making it an essential tool for organizations working to make informed, impactful environmental decisions within a connected ecosystem.

Additional New Features in MGS Beta v10

API Security Aligned with Mainnet Best Practices

In alignment with best practices for mainnet deployments, MGS now restricts access to the MGS Managed Hashicorp Vault through its API, mirroring the security safeguards in the user interface. This ensures that mainnet security is consistently maintained across all access points.

Customized Invitations with User Type Selection

Tenant Admins can now specify a user’s type (Standard Registry or general user) when sending invitations. This update streamlines the onboarding process by ensuring that each user is granted the appropriate permissions from the outset, improving security and ease of access.
